In combat, you're generally going to want to alpha strike and kill at least one of your foes as quickly as possible to reduce incoming damage because damage is usually the cause for my groups to go into death spiral. Any class not mentioned probably falls in the middle. Hellions, Crusaders, Leapers and Vestals are good. Plague Doctors, Jesters, Gravediggers are bad. There are certain classes that are more powerful than others and the game gets remarkably easier once you have a team made up of the good classes instead of the bad ones. If you're having issues, the most likely problem is that your party composition is off.
